Waitakaruru Sculpture Park and Arboretum 2

The Park is contained in an obsolete quarry

The location has been beautified with small water features. This one contains
lovely water lillies

There are an assortment of shrubs and trees as well as the occasional
changes to the sculpures on display.

This small yellow flower was brightening the overcast day.

An interesting mask-type sculpture was a bright coloured character...

...as was this pair of Easter Island-looking heads.

We found this log sculpure a bit of a mystery though .

Though strange to look at this wind chime sculpture emitted a pleasant quiet, hollow chiming sound.

I was fascinated by this spiders web built around a collection of shrub branches.

Another family was visiting when we were there and the children enjoyed making their own sculptures using parts supplied for the purpose.

I have a nearby sculpture garden and I should really go take some photos there...but I am waiting for a lovely snow.

What a great park - and such a good idea to let kids build their own sculptures.

Wonderful pictures - thanks for sharing.

I agree with Lady Fi, what a fabulous, creative and fun idea to give the children a chance to build their own sculptures, too!

I loved that capture you snapped of the spider's web - wow, isn't it awesome?

Hi Dave,

Greetings, Helma

I think I would be afraid to see the spider that made that huge complicated web! (:0)
the park has a lot of interesting sculptures and landscape. On a beautiful day it would be fun walking around there.

Seems like a great place for young and old.. and the rest of us in between. I love the masks and the webbing (because of the leaf placement) looks like a mask, as well. Might it be a caterpiller webbing?
