IrfanView Photographic software

Many blogging and local friends have kindly praised the quality of my photos, and I appreciate the encouragement, but I think it is worth explaining that the quality of a picture may rely as much on the processing afterwards as the taking of the photo with the camera in the first place.

There are many photo-modifying softwares available on the internet, and many of them are free, but after trying several out my favourite is called IrfanView.

This software was developed organised by Irfan Skiljan of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is one of the simplest and most comprehensive photo-modifying software I have come across, and it is the only one I use for my blog site. While compiling this blog I have discovered that many professionals also use it.

IrfanView software is free to download and use and is available at http://www.irfanview.com/ . It is designed to work with Windows software, so it may not work on Mac computer equipment.

Some of the settings may be left to the software to decide, but I prefer to make my own adjustments, and mainly use the Contrast and Sharpen controls for my photos.

If you are computer literate and want to experiment you will find that IrfanView can do much more than just improve your photos, but I will not go into that here.

The basic software is quite simple to use and gives great results, so if you have a need for photographic software, give it a go!

Thanks Dave, I haven't heard of that one. I have Photoshop, but only use it occasionally. But it STILL takes a good eye and steady hand to create good pictures. :)

Haven't heard of this one. I often use the controls in iPhoto, but recently have discovered that a photo can be fine-tuned even better in a Mac software called Snapseed, which I like.

I agree IrfanView is a good one. I also use another good one called PhotoScape. It's easy to use and is free! If you want to take a look at it or download it go here:

Hi Dave,

I totally agree with you regarding the week with Irfanview. I gebruim it myself for years and am very satisfied. Very nice that you also look to the attention that others might also have something. It is indeed free, but that is not the most important. The important thing is that it is a very nice program to work.

Greetings, Helma
