1950's school class photo
Remembering the past
Recently a person who was in my class at Primary school 55 years ago (photo above) contacted me. We began to exchange e-mails recalling our school experiences and what happened to other class members we knew, and over the recent few days we have both enjoyed recalling the past and filling in the gaps in our past experiences.

It has been enjoyable catching up and I looked forward to the e-mails. But just like discussions about anything, all good things come to an end once information is exhausted.

They say that as we get older our memories of the past get sharper while our recall of recent events become vague. I think that this is right. I have found that almost insignificant past memories can be quite clear, as if they happened yesterday, and it is fun to recall them. I think too that different people recall things differently, though this was not the case at this time. An example though is of siblings in a family recalling family events. Recently while helping someone prepare their life review this became plainly obvious. I guess the attitude of the individuals both at the time of the event and during recall can determine their memories and chain of events.

Happy memories are always enjoyable and enable us to live the fun times in our lives again. I certainly have recently.

Thanks Marion…

Most of my school memories are not that happy as I went to boarding school where the teachers were very strict.

I love that old photo.

Thanks Fi. Mmmm, boarding schools seem to be like that. Maybe why many parents send their children their?

Hello Dave,

how nice that an old classmate contact you have taken together and reminisce of the time.

Ehbtr you're right when you say that everyone remembers things differently. In your own family is different because we still see each other and keep some memories alive if they just happened.

Memories of classmates goes for everyone else, but it's nice to share these memories.

Greetings, Helma

Those catch-ups are fun. With the internet, those re-encounters happen more and morel lately. I spent two hours on the phone last night, chatting with a cousin who I had not been in contact with since I was about 20. We had a blast

I went on Facebook, and a student from 1974 found me despite changing my married name. Now I am enjoying news from long ago.

I love old photos and the memories they evoke. Which one is you?

btw, when I enlarged the photo, I notice that I can see that three children are barefoot. Was that common when you were in primary school?

Ann, sorry to be late responding to your comment. That's good that someone from your past found you. Perhaps they Googled you?
Sandra, I also like old photos and memories. I am third from the left, second row down from the top. Regarding bare feet, the kids are wearing summer clothes so it must be summer. Some wear shoes to school and take them off there, or some may not even wear shoes to school. It doesn't mean that they are poor. just that they enjoy the freedom of bare feet. I probably was bare-footed too - Dave
