2011 Rugby World Cup
New Zealand is currently hosting the 2011 Rugby World Cup, which is being played at locations around NZ, but mainly in Auckland, our biggest city.

Enthusiasm for this event has captured the imagination of people all around the country as well as the very many supporters visiting from competing countries from around the world. To show support most businesses and towns are flying flags of whichever nation they support, such as Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, South Africa, Samoa, Fiji, Namibia, United States, Argentina, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Romania, Japan, Italy, Romania, France, Georgia, and Russia.

The photos above show small flags flying on a string inside the restaurant where we had lunch in Te Awamutu in the Waikato, and the second photo shows flags flying in the main street of Cambridge in the Waikato.

New Zealand is currently in high spirits during the six weeks of the competition. Most of the larger rugby-playing nations all hope to be the 2011 winners of the Web Ellis World Cup trophy, but as the host country we New Zealanders hope that our All Blacks will win.

Go the All Blacks!

Sue, thanks. Me too. Unfortunately USA are now out, though they tried valiantly.
Fi, yes, they look attractive.
Michelle, in some ways it is similar to American football, but I think more complicated. - Dave

Good luck with the Rugby matches. Oh, and I love your photos of the flowers and plants.

(Don't know much about rugby, but I'm such a sports fan, I know I'd like it.)
